[ARCHIVED] Route 249 Waterline surveying ongoing in Quinton area

dpu surveying

Routing & environmental surveys have begun on the Rt. 249 Waterline Extension between Clintwood Drive and Quinton Elementary School.  This interconnecting waterline is a crucial piece of New Kent County’s water supply plan, connecting the County’s two largest water systems for future connection to an alternate water supply other than groundwater.  Near term benefits of the interconnection include a reduction in public utility operating costs, increased reliability for utility customers and a reduction in groundwater pumping in the western end of the County, where the impact on the Potomac Aquifer is greater.

Surveyors will be locating important and sensitive features 25 feet either side of the VDOT right-of-way, including:  topography, underground utilities and wetlands, for the purposes of waterline design.  If easements are necessary owners will be contacted directly at a later date.  Mandatory water connections are NOT part of the project proposal.

The surveys are expected to take approximately 4 to 6 weeks.

For more information on the Rt. 249 Waterline Extension, contact Mike Lang, Director of Public Utilities at 804-966-9678 or cmlang@newkent-va.us.
