Lang promoted to Public Utilities Director

New Kent County is pleased to announce the promotion of C. Michael “Mike” Lang to Director of Public Utilities, effective May 1, 2022. Lang currently serves as the Assistant Director of Public Utilities.

In his 14 years with New Kent, Lang has been responsible for the development of the County’s water supply plan and led the County in its efforts in obtaining a surface water withdrawal permit for water from the Pamunkey River.

County Administrator Rodney Hathaway said, “Mike has proven experience in managing utility systems, and a thorough knowledge of the challenges and opportunities facing our Public Utilities Department. I am confident in Mike’s ability to bring a new perspective to an important position while continuing to provide our customers with top quality service.”

Lang and his family reside in New Kent County. Prior to his time with New Kent County, Lang was previously employed by Sydnor Hydro, Inc. as a water well construction manager. He succeeds Lawrence “Larry” Dame who recently retired after 14 years as the County’s Public Utilities Director. Dame brought over 45 years’ experience in public water and public wastewater management.

“I appreciate the confidence Mr. Hathaway and the Board of Supervisors have placed in me,” Lang said. “It’s been a pleasure serving the citizens of New Kent County over the past many years, and I look forward to many more in my new role facing and addressing the utility challenges in our small but rapidly growing community.”
