National Drug Take Back tomorrow

The New Kent Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the DEA National Drug Take Back on Saturday, April 30, 2022. This event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office. Please properly dispose of these items to avoid having them stolen, lost or misused. It's a safe method for the environment too.

Holly Fork Rd (Route 600) at Goddins Mill Pond to close for bridge repair

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a section of Holly Fork Road (Route 600) at Goddins Mill Pond on Monday, May 9 through July 2022 for a bridge repair project in New Kent County.

During the repair, the road will be closed to all traffic. Drivers should follow the posted detour route:

  • Northbound Holly Fork Rd. (Rt. 600) – Take Farmers Dr. (Rt. 273) west to New Kent Hwy. (Rt. 30) south to Richardson Rd. (Rt. 705) east to Holly Forks Rd./Tabernacle Rd. (Rt. 601) east to Triangle Rd. (Rt. 635) east back to Holly Fork Rd.
  • Southbound Holly Fork Rd. (Rt. 600) – Take Triangle Rd. (Rt. 635) west to Tabernacle Rd./Holly Forks Rd. (Rt. 601) west to Richardson Rd. (Rt. 705) west to New Kent Hwy. (Rt. 30) north to Farmers Dr. (Rt. 273) north back to Holly Fork Rd.

Social Services needs your help

The New Kent Department of Social Services is very excited to support five New Kent County youth with transportation assistance—but we need the community’s help, too! If you or your organization are interested in assisting foster care and former foster care youth--with a monetary donation, purchasing a vehicle, resources or supports related to car insurance, fees or maintenance--please reach out to the New Kent Department of Social Services at 804-966-1853 x5136. Together, we can support foster care and former foster care youth here in New Kent County overcome barriers in meeting their transportation needs.

Strides for Schools is next Saturday

The New Kent Educational Foundation (NKEF) is proud to present the Strides for Schools event this year on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at a new location, Colonial Downs Race Track. This will consist of several race opportunities to include the One Mile Apple Dash and the 5K Strides for Schools. The proceeds for the event will benefit the NKEF and its various projects, such as: students scholarships, teacher grants, the theater department, homecoming events, and many other educational programs throughout the year.

The New Kent Educational Foundation (NKEF) channels community resources to promote and enhance educational opportunities for the students and staff of New Kent County Public Schools. The NKEF has provided grants to teachers in all four schools, scholarships to students, a technology resource library, an annual CPR day, and a variety of other special projects.
