Bear sightings over the past week
The New Kent Sheriff's Office recently reported that they had been made aware of several bear sightings in the Oaks neighborhood over the past week. The Department of Wildlife Resources is aware and monitoring the situation. The bear is most likely just looking for food and is mostly seen at night. They strongly encouraged the following deterrent measures over the next couple weeks:
1. Put all trash cans and recycling bins away in your garage.
2. Take down any bird or squirrel feeders that you may have out.
3. Put away any grills that may have a food smell emanating from them.
The Sheriff's Office will continue to monitor this situation with The Department of Wildlife Resources.
