Rabies clinic on January 28; lifetime dog license also available

New Kent Sheriff's Office Animal Control will be holding their annual rabies clinic Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The clinic will take place in the New Kent County Courthouse parking lot located at 12001 Courthouse Circle, New Kent, VA 23124. The cost is $10.00 per vaccination. Dogs and cats (in carriers) are welcome. Payment can be made by cash or check only. The New Kent Treasurer will also be open to sell county lifetime dog licenses.

Looking for a broadband update? District 1 Broadband Town Hall Meeting scheduled for January 26

Pursuant to our Broadband Agreement, Cox Communications will provide updates on their construction progress to date throughout the duration of the expansion project.

The Cox Communications team continues to make progress on the initial preliminary network design and construction plan and you may have seen them out in the field recently. They have now started the permitting phase of the broadband project and construction on the fiber backbone will start within the week.

Board of Supervisors Representative for District 1, Thomas Evelyn, is hosting an upcoming town hall meeting where an update on broadband expansion in the County will be presented by Cox Cable representatives. The meeting will be held Thursday, January 26, 6 p.m. in the auditorium of George W. Watkins Elementary School (6501 New Kent Highway, Quinton).

Celebrate your love for you dog(s) this Valentine's Day at Pine Fork Park's "Woofs & Wags" Dog Park. The event runs 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Pine Fork Park (7600 Bristlecone Blvd, Quinton).

All dogs should have rabies vaccination, be registered with the County of New Kent and follow the rules posted at the Dog Park. RSVP to New Kent Parks & Recreation is encouraged, but not required at (804) 966-8502.

Board elects Tiller chair and Evelyn vice chair for 2023

The New Kent County Board of Supervisors met on January 9, 2023 for their annual organizational meeting to elect a Chair and Vice Chair. C. Thomas Tiller was elected Chair (left). Thomas Evelyn was elected Vice Chair (right).

Tiller represents District 2 and was first elected to the Board in November 2011. Evelyn represents District 1 and was elected to the Board in November 2007 for the first time. 

The Board also approved their 2023 meeting schedule. The meeting was livestreamed Monday evening at http://youtube.com/newkentcountyva. Watch the replay on YouTube or those with Cox Cable can watch a replay of Board meetings on Channel 48 (beginning the day following) at 9 a.m., noon and 6 p.m.
