VDOT to close section of Olivet Church Road (Route 618) for roadway rehabilitation project

Weather permitting, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Olivet Church Road (Route 618) approximately 0.5 miles north of Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) starting at 8 a.m. Monday, March 13 through 4 p.m. Friday, March 24 for drainage and roadway rehabilitation in New Kent County.

During work, the following detour route will be in place:

Northbound Olivet Church Rd. (Route 618) – Take Pocahontas Trail (Rt. 60) east to N. Courthouse Rd. (Rt. 155) north to New Kent Highway. (Rt. 249) west back to Olivet Church Rd. (Route 618)

Southbound Olivet Church Rd. (Route 618) – Take New Kent Highway (Rt. 249) east to N. Courthouse Rd. (Rt. 155) south to Pocahontas Trail (Rt. 60) west back to Olivet Church Rd. (Route 618.

Shredding, recycling event for New Kent residents scheduled for April 1

The New Kent Clean County Committee has scheduled a free shredding and recycling event for County residents on Saturday, April 1, 2023, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of the New Kent County Administration Building (12007 Courthouse Circle, New Kent).

Recycling of tires (no rims), electronics, eyeglasses & hearing aids, as well as paper shredding are all available at this rain or shine event. Please note that tire recycling is meant for residents/residential properties and is not intended for the commercial/business disposal of tires.

In addition, please help the committee collect for the New Kent Animal Shelter - food and financial donations will be accepted. Preferred food to help aid in the health of our furry friends: Purina Pro, Blue Buffalo, Pedigree, IAMS, Friskies, and Meow Mix. Make checks payable to the New Kent County Treasurer.
